george, Art of Fighting, Decoder Ring

I should just mention I was working the merch desk at this gig. A reviewer was organised but ended up in hospital on the night, and the bands sounded too good to my ears to abstain from giving them a review. So keep in mind I heard all but saw naught.
It's always great to see the opening acts get the reception they deserve and tonight the crowd well and truly gave it up for Decoder Ring. The band may be new, but the musicians are almost old hands now, hailing from a number of acclaimed local outfits including sealife park and el Mopa. Where those bands delve heavily into the more moody ands somber realms of laidback rock, Decoder Ring almost gleefully spice things up with interesting tunes constructed around many keyboard layers and the standard instrument set-up. Sometimes reflective of that lo-fi stroll, Decoder Ring sporadically thrash out and I'm sure one of these days we might even catch a bit of crowd surfing at a show. Remarkable.
